Pornhub’s year-end chart put women-loving-women content first worldwide and first among its female viewers. The people paying for it, on tubes and on subscription sites alike, are mostly men, and that has always decided who gets to hold the camera.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the fifth year running, the most searched word on Pornhub in 2025 was “hentai.” The most watched category was something else. Lesbian took the top spot, Pornhub’s statisticians reported<\/a> in December, up three places on 2024, ahead of Transgender, MILF and Anal. In the United States it was first as well. Searches for “lesbian scissoring” rose 79%, “lesbian strapon” 62%, “lesbian MILF” 129%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The easy reading is that this is women’s content, watched by women. Pornhub’s own analysts had been blunter a year earlier, when the category briefly slipped to fourth. Lesbian, they wrote in the 2024 review<\/a>, is “an extremely popular category and a common fantasy amongst straight men, who make up a large portion of viewers on Pornhub.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both things are true at once, and the gap between them is the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is in the room<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Women made up 38% of all visitors to Pornhub in 2025, by the site’s count. In the United States and Canada, a year earlier, it was 29%. The audience is still roughly two men for every woman, and in North America closer to five for every two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within that minority, the preferences are distinct. For women, the site listed the favourite categories in order: Lesbian, Japanese, MILF, Anal. For men: Japanese, MILF, Mature, Anal. Lesbian is first on one list and absent from the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So a category that women rank first is not in men’s top four, and still finishes first overall. With women at 38% of the traffic, the arithmetic does not work on their clicks alone. A large share of the lesbian audience is the audience Pornhub described in 2024: straight men for whom it is a fantasy, not a reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing about that should shock anyone. The category was built on exactly that customer, and he explains how it has looked for twenty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made for the other audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mainstream lesbian scenes come out of studios, and studios film for the customer they can count. “Mainstream lesbian porn is made by and for a male audience,” Ruth Seavers wrote for GCN<\/a> in 2016, “so it’s fetishised and falsified to cater to their expectations.” Her piece was a guide to the queer-made alternatives, which existed, and were small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An academic reached the same place from the data. Reviewing search figures in 2019, Dr Paul Maginn of the University of Western Australia told PinkNews<\/a> that “the continued fetishisation of queer women by heterosexual men” was one reason the category kept spiking, and that the categories themselves “reflect heteronormative sexual preferences and interests.” Around 70% of Pornhub’s viewers at the time identified as male.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women watching noticed. In 2024 Pornhub found that women watched the Scissoring category 143% more than men did, and Pussy Licking 103% more. The acts a studio treats as a two-minute warm-up before the real scene are the acts the female audience actually came for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A category can be named after women and still be shot for someone else. For most of its life, this one was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The subscription changed who holds the camera<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Then the production moved. On a subscription platform there is no studio and no casting director; the person in the frame is the person who set up the frame. That does not make the content truer by default. It does mean that, for the first time at scale, the women in a lesbian scene are also the people who decided what it would show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand for that was visible in search before it was visible on screen. In 2024 Pornhub recorded searches for “ethical porn” up 92%, “authentic couple” up 28% and “authentic sex” up 43%. “With the increased production of ethical and amateur porn,” the site’s Dakota Ramppen said, “it seems that people want something more real!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is the twist. The audience paying for it looks even more male than the tube audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Czech payment app’s sample of about four thousand OnlyFans payers, reported by e15<\/a> in June 2026 alongside OnlyGuider’s figures for the city, found 93% of paying profiles belonged to men with an average age under 24. Women were 7% of the sample. The same article, citing OnlyGuider, put Prague’s annual spending above $14 million, tenth among European cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And most of those men pay once. OnlyGuider’s transaction analysis of 1,003,855 subscribers and 58.9 million payments, as Infobae summarised it<\/a> in September 2026, found that 95.8% of male subscribers never spend anything beyond the first subscription. The 4.2% who do average $48.52 over their lifetime on a page. In New York City, nearly seven dollars in ten of the projected $164.3 million for 2026 go to direct messages and custom requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What that buys the creator is leverage, not a living. P\u00fablico reported<\/a> in September 2026 that an OnlyGuider analysis of almost three thousand accounts found the top-earning 0.1% holding 76% of all income; the Portuguese, for their part, spent 22.7 million euros on the platform in 2025. One account in a thousand takes three dollars of every four. The rest are competing for a male audience that mostly looks and leaves, with content they at least chose to make themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding the real ones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

That leaves the fan with a sorting problem, and the platform does nothing to solve it. The search box on OnlyFans resolves a username and nothing else. “Lesbian” is not something it understands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sorting has moved outside, the way it moved to tube categories twenty years ago. OnlyGuider’s list of lesbian creators<\/a> on OnlyFans is one such index, and its own introduction draws the line this article has been drawing: pages built around women’s experiences rather than performances staged for a male viewer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treat that line as an intention, not a verification. A tag on an index is a claim a creator made about her own page, recorded on the day the index looked. An index cannot see who is behind the camera, whether a couple is a couple, or whether the label was chosen because it is true or because it ranks. Fans know this. “Real lesbian” is itself a search term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The camera caught up. The audience didn’t.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The category women watch most was, for most of its history, written, lit and cut by people selling to men. That part is changing, one self-produced page at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The money is not. On the tube and on the subscription, the hand on the wallet is still mostly a man’s. What changed in 2025 is not who watches. It is who holds the camera.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
